Subject: Frakture Programme 2008 -2009

Frakture was founded in 1997 to promote free improvised music through an artist led organisation. The programme which is supported by three awards from; The PRS Foundation, Arts Council England, The Liverpool Culture Company will deliver:

33 public performances featuring local, national and international artists;
24 workshops ;
3 Frakture Big Band Projects; a large format ensemble improvised music Soundwalks
Praxis, Frakture’s new programme for putting new ideas into action.

The three awards will help to consolidate and sustain the valuable relationships that Frakture has developed with key local organisations such as the newly re-opened primary arts centre, “The Liverpool Bluecoat”, Hope University at Everton as well as collaboration with new organisations as Frakture seeks to place free improvisation practice and performance and risk-taking new music within fresh locations and settings.

The funding will be invaluable in enabling the further development of Frakture’s regional profile by arranging concert tours for its members and promoting concerts in the North West region beyond Liverpool’s borders.

The programme that this funding supports complements the “concert content” with personal development plans; the digital recording and distribution of work; educational reviews, maintaining an interactive website, a fully equipped administrative office and part time administrator.

“ this is good news indeed following two hard years reviewing our work and activities. Free improvisation in music remains a difficult genre of music to play and promote, this funding support will open up opportunities for Frakture and artists associated with its work."
Phil Morton: Co-director, Frakture.

"Just a note to say well done. Looks like you're doing some great stuff
in an art form which can be difficult to get funding in. Keep us
updated with activities etc. Best of luck"

David Rogerson Publishing Director, Sonic Arts Network

"congratulations on your funding! Well deserved!"
