Notes For Musicians

Loads of stuff to do and more to come: meanwhile observe the following.

Frakture Big Band:

2008: The story so far, we have played 2 gig plus 4 rehearsals. The first as support for the Eddie Prévost / Alexander von Schlippenbach, quartet with Alan Wilkinson & Joe Williamson, in the newly re-opened Bluecoat Arts Centre. The second at The Warrington Festival of experimental music at The Pyramid Arts Cente, Warrington. Date 21st June 2008,

After a period of silence the almost new Frakture Big Band has re-appeared with different line-ups and a sense of change ...more shortly...and there is an upgrade to the web-presence [here]

meanwhile what happens next

Maybe a gig in October 2008
Strong possibilities of a gig with the Frode Gjerstad trio in December featuring Paal Nilssen-Love, drums;Øyvind Storesund, bass Frode Gjerstad, clarinets, alto sax. Plus we have received a proposal from Stephen Grew. If you have ambitions, ideas or even composition to work with a large ensemble of free improvisors visit the web presence, complete the proposal form , give the office a call..

Praxis: Musicians meeting wednesay 16th July. 7.30

Praxis: the process of putting theoretical knowledge into practice, the practice of faith
Praxis: @ Frakture.org: Converting ideas into action, action into events, events into funding & income.

You maybe one of the lucky ones and missed out on the Frakture two organisational review! Well we wont bore you with the down side of that process but the upside is that Frakture and associated musicians are in a better position to move forward. Praxis will look at new ways of working together, new souces of finance and paying ourselves etc. Currently 5 musicians will be attending.

Interested: Contact Frakture 0151 709 6123; email admin@frakture.org

Short term objectives.

  • Increase the range of funding sources Frakture.org accesses
  • Invert: most ideas and content within Frakture come from the top down, Praxis will look to invert this process by uncovering ideas and projects latent within the network of Frakture musicians that can realistically be delivered.
  • Develop regional touring
  • Deliver Frakture Concerts on a regional basis and not solely in Liverpool.
  • Look at funded projects (i.e. musicians income) for The Frakture Big Band

Funding: read the press release [here]

“ This is good news indeed following two hard years reviewing our work and activities. Free improvisation in music remains a difficult genre of music to play and promote, this funding support will open up opportunities for Frakture and artists associated with its work.”
Phil Morton: Co-director, Frakture
