Workshops: News
- A Long Walk Forwards..
- The Long Walk
- SWIM: have been commissioned to participate and deliver sessions for this exciting project. There is an opportunity for musicians to participate in workshops, soundwalks and performances too. Contact swim@frakture.org 0151 709 6123 if you are interested.
More detailed info at the SWIM homepage shortly http://www.frakture.org/swim.htm
- "The LONG WALK is a new composition and also a framework for a larger music development project that particularly engages with Chinese communities and culture.
The new piece has been conceived by Peter Moser in collaboration with professional musicians and artists and provides a platform for new work that arises from a community development process. In performance the LONG WALK showcases an orchestra of professional musicians and community participants in a finely tuned and innovative musical offering.
As a response to the Morecambe Bay tragedy of February 2004, the LONG WALK is inspired by Chinese music and culture. This tragedy raised issues of displacement, exploitation and journey that are relevant to people, whatever their background or nationality. "

- VOCAL PLAY

- Here it is in writing: newspaper piece
- SWIM/Frakture is seeking participants for the "newspaper piece" plus recording for the Vocal Play myspace: see here for details.... . The first recording session is scheduled for Wednesday evening October 10th. Now past with huge success! There will be more sessions as this is to become a significant part of a Frakture radio programme for Resonance Radio and a Frakture Concerts performance in the near future.:
Words don't do this piece justice: get in touch if your curious.
- one-two
- Phil Morton will running very short -splash and dash- workshops on rhythm featuring John Stevens one-two pieces from search and reflect. Highly recommended: short and intense pieces, for which there is no take up! they remain highly recommended and.
Phil writes,
one-two is an inclusive and heuristic approach to a mainstream concept of "time" in music without the use of paper or metronomes . My personal experience illuminates that it is also a useful tool for becoming more incisive and compelling in my improvisations rather than "dare I say it" in-decisive, uncompelling and on occaisions a tad sloppy!. But that was me, you may discover other results from this very simple John Stevens exercie & direct approach. more info here...
or maybe improvisers can't count!
- People with instruments:
- SWIM: sound workshops in music are collaborating with everyday music for a day of activities in Manchester on December 1st @ The Zion Centre. More information in the November Newsletter.
