Vocal play 2008 restarts @ the mello mello "jazz bar" on Slater Street Saturday 23rd Feb, The March session previously listed for the 22nd is de-listed as it is Easter Saturday! Recent sessions have explored phonetics and low volume whispering, but why not come along and find out for yourself. Session leader Phil Morton
  • Phil Morton has 30 years experience in the nature and practice of free improvisation. Pauline Oliveros, Maggie Nicols, Phil Minton, Steve Beresford, Simon H. Fell, Carlos Zingaro are a few important artists he has worked closely with. Since 1997 involvement in Frakture organisation has brought him into contact with hundreds of artists involved in all areas of the creative arts informing his own practice. In 1998 the work of Murray R Schaffer and the concept of acoustic ecology came to Phil’s attention and broadened his interest beyond the boundaries of music and into sound. The act of listening itself now became a key feature of his work. Phil has made presentations at two conferences; designed and led listening-projects; and as a musician he has worked nationally and internationally

Good News is that we have Maggie Nicols with us for Saturday 5th April for a mid-day workshop, followed by performance in the Picton Reading Room, Central Library, William Brown Street. This is a confirmed date.More detail on this shortly

As with the Feral Choir in 2006, "it doesn't get any better than this" is my recommendation to vocalist for this session. This will be the fourth time we have brought Maggie's to Merseyside, an exceptional and infectious talent, here is just one testimony of many...
    • Maggie Nicols is a musician of exceptional capability, creativity and expertise, and is internationally recognised for her contribution to jazz and improvised music. However, her extraordinary teaching and enabling skills are not so well known. Her work does not easily fall into ready categories but the results are clear. She can inspire people from all walks of life to listen and participate in music, she can compel experts and beginners alike to collaborate in an environment of creativity and respect, and her ability to engage others in complex and and challenging musical projects is exceptional." - Dave O'Donnell, Director, Community Music

With the working title, "from a whisper to a response" this voice workshop will explore the voice, improvisation, free improvisation and finish with a unique performance in the Picton Reading Room (a whispering gallery). Places will be limited and this event could easily be over-subscribed. Fees are to £10.00/£7.50 comps. To put your name on the list send an email to swim@frakture.org ASAP, there'll be the usefull registration form shortly and maybe a paypal button to pay with...
