News & Future's

December 2007:

  • As we head towards Xmas we still have several sessions to come: Snap, vocal play and an opportunity for new-comers @ the Splash Gig at mello mello on Thursday 20th December [ splash link ] . This may also become a season party with drinks and pies! see you there.
  • "The Commons" : Frakture's open sessions in Free Improvisation have been dropped due to lack of up-take and deferred to another time and place. A good idea that awaits its time...

Workshops

SNAP: out of it. the nature and practice of free improvisation

Next session is Monday Dec 3rd @ the Cornerstone, 7.30 - 9.30 pm
Also at The Zion Centre Manchester: Dec 1st [ more info here ]

This session will investigate playing and not playing: interventions and the discussion phase will explore different styles of playing with. I have acquired some very sophisticated instruments to enable musicians to only play for 50% of the duration of each improvisation and exercise! we will explore this experience.

Reviews of previous sessions can be found on the frakture.org blog/forum, try here ; or here .

We can't solve your transport problems but if you find the Cornerstone difficult to travel too: contact swim@frakture.org and we may be able to car-share.

After several hints: I will finally record this session and make the recordings available to the [and only to] participants via web as mp3 or .flac files. I believe this will be great aid in personal development for newcomers and participants in the sessions: i.e. listening back to the recording of the sessions you participated in.

Hope to see you all there, again: if you can't attend it is always appreciated to let us know: email swim@frakture.org etc.

Please arrive on time: if required bring extension cables : also bottled water helps!

Vocal Play : creative voice workshops

Next session : mello mello jazz bar, slater street, liverpool L1
£2.00 Time: 1.00pm -3.00pm

Vocal Play invites you to celebrate the voice in a session driven by free improvisation and a sense of play, no singing experience is necessary, just PLAY. All welcome

To play might mean: to do it now, as you are; to improvise, to use what is at hand; to enter into a game, not just to act according to someone else's set of rules, but to invent processes, ways of doing things, protocols; to imagine new ways of being together, of proceeding.

Please arrive 10 minutes before the session in order to start on time. It is advisable to bring a drink of water with you.

Ensembles

The Frakture Big Band
The SWIM/Frakture package offers a range of exciting opportunities for musicians interested in a creative music practice involving a range of styles; free improvisation, "risks", graphic scores and experimental notations. The Frakture Big Band recently returned to form with a successful performance with former Can-man Damo Suzuki at The Magenet: Hardman Street.

The Frakture Big Band's next outing will be in March 2008: two rehearsals + performance + recording. The process of recruiting personnel and participation will depend upon the concert programme selected.
