Frakture, Priorities & Initiatives
for the year 2007

Frakture is at a delicate stage of its development.

At present Frakture operates on a primarily volunteer basis. An executive committee coordinates the overall running of the organisation whilst the various specific activities are coordinated by members of the organisation,

  • a 'concerts team' is responsible for programming;
  • workshop activities are managed by the 'SWIM team';
  • and there is a team responsible for the 'CD label'.

All this work is voluntary.

As the range of its activities increases, it becomes more important that the office and administrative functions be put on a more secure basis.
For the period November 2006 - March 2007, had a part-time, paid, coordinator/administrator . As at May 2007 Frakture has no funding for administration and therefore remains in a vulnerable position.

.It is vital to the continued success of Frakture that this situation be addressed and for the next few years and it remains a priority of the organisation's strategy to secure funding for adminsitration or find another solution.

A large part of the focus for 2007/08 will be on developing the organisational base and the support services that Frakture can offer.

The key priorities here are-

  • The consolidation of the office base and administration.
  • Exploring and developing the membership support services that Frakture offers. This potentially involves-
    • Enabling access to office facilities; facilitating networking opportunities between members and Frakture's partner organisations;
    • Enhancement of the web-site to included members pages.
    • Documentation of work. It is important, both for the purpose of archiving, and to enhance the understanding and promotion of Frakture's work, that the organisation effectively documents the full range of its activities.
    • Publicity. To develop audience numbers; to make its activities known to a wider community of musicians and artists, and to promote its own members' activities, it is vital to develop the ways in which Frakture promotes itself.
    • Further fundraising to enable the consolidation and expansion of the organisation's activities and services.

Potential New Areas Of Work Being Considered

  • Frakture Commissions. This is a new initiative responding to approaches from the growing pool of improvising and experimental musicians working under the Frakture 'umbrella', regarding project ideas. In 2007/08, Frakture will offer 2 commissions to regionally based artists. These may be performance projects, installations, 'new media' projects, or something else entirely new. The criteria will be that they be innovative and extend the boundaries of new music. Frakture will offer a commission fee and provide administrative and promotional support to the selected projects.
  • R"n"D Days: Building on its relationships with host organisations and venues, Frakture will host a series of R&D days offering members, subsidised access to rehearsal space and promoting practical, collaborative relationships between its members.
  • Festival & Audience Development: with large elements of "operational work" now being done by the "administrator" the various subcommittees can put more attention & energy into Festival & Audience Development
  • Collaborations: as above, time & funding permitting the Frakture Concerts team is exploring new relationships and partnerships with other arts organisations and individual artists in Liverpool...

Busy times ahead
