"An Audience with" format is an informal session with visiting musicians
arranged by Frakture. You are invited to express and interest in playing with Simon Rose. [Simon Rose details and biog are below]. To clarify you
are not an audience! this is a music session you participate in!
This gives local musicians the chance to play with; meet; exchange ideas and
working practices with visiting artists / musicians.
Who is going to be there
The "An Audience with" format is not an "open door policy" or "drop in
centre" approach: likewise the sessions are not run along the "The Commons /
Open Session " format.
You indicate your interest via the Frakture website at
http://www.frakture.org/easyaudiencewith.htm
Often those who submit their interest will attend . Frakture will select
participants with the idea of achieving what we perceive as a complimentary
array of musicians covering "a range" of instrumentation and abilities. The
session is limited to six.
When will Frakture inform those are participating.
We will reply to everyone by Tuesday May 15th: regarding who is being
invited to attend.
Charge
There is a charge of £2.00 to cover the cost of room hire.
All welcome to apply, we look forward to the session: previous sessions
"audience with" include: Allassandro Bosetti; Emily Hay & Pal Pettersen. All
Session have been excellent: this session is likely to be so too. Simon also
apprears at Splash Gig 15th June, solo sax.

Simon is best known in the field of free improvisation as leader of the trio
'badland' together with Simon Fell on double bass and Steve Noble on drums.
They have toured extensively had three albums released a number of radio
sessions including a session for BBC Jazz on 3 (with a fourth CD recording
currently in preparation).
During the mid 90's he established Club Orange with tenor saxophonist John
Grieve. .A fortnightly, then weekly club for free jazz and mprovised music
in north London. It quickly became a venue where just about everyone from
the improvised music scene in this country as well as some from Europe and
from north America could be seen.
Simon has performed, with for example: Adam Bohman, Matt Hutchinson, Mark
Sanders, Oren Marshal, Dave Tucker, Phil Alexander and many others. Current
projects include 'badland', solo, and recent performances have been trios
with Roger Turner and John Edwards and a second with Dominic Lash and Paul
May.
Simon has performed solo over the course of the last five years. Influences
are broad and as well as European and American ideas relating to free
improvisation (from those such as Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, Peter
Brotzmann, Han Bennink) he is also interested in musical ideas on
particularly wind and especially reed instruments as used historically
throughout the world and particularly in Asia.
As well as a saxophonist Simon is a very experienced teacher and has taught
music and drama in different settings both full and part time. Much of his
teaching work has been with young people who have special educational needs.
He is currently doing an MA (Professional Practice) concerned with
performance and education.
Simon lives in north London with partner Julie Myers video artist and their
daughter Lydia.
