Philip Thomas
Pianist Philip Thomas specialises in performing new and experimental
music, including both notated and improvised music. He places
much emphasis on each concert being a unique event, designing
imaginative programmes that provoke and reveal connections.
Philip's most recent solo projects have included concerts of
music composed by improvisers, including premieres of new works
by Mick Beck, Chris Burn and Simon H.Fell; premiere performances
of major new works by Richard Emsley and Christopher Fox; and
surveys of the music of John Cage and Morton Feldman.
Future plans include a survey of the piano music of Christian
Wolff and Eric Satie; performances of Alvin Curran's mammoth Inner
Cities series; and newly commissioned works by Tim Parkinson,
Laurence Crane, and Markus Trunk.
For the Frakture performance Thomas will play compositions by
John Cage, Mick Beck, Chris Burn, Michael Finnissy and Paul Obermayer.
